Celebrating Dermot MorganVodafone Comedy Festival
Vodafone have enjoyed a long-established relationship with great Irish comedy through their sponsorship of the Vodafone Comedy Festival and the Vodafone Comedy Carnival Galway. This year, we wanted to inject new life into our onsite presence at the Vodafone Comedy Festival, utilising Vodafone’s 4G network to create a memorable experience for festival-goers.
Festival-goers crave sharable photo opportunities at events as a way to build social currency. In addition, the 20th anniversary of Father Ted has led to a communal outpouring of tributes to Dermot Morgan and his timeless, much loved characters.
Teaming up with Instaprint, we asked fans to use #VCF15 to tag their festival photos on Instagram. Each photo was used to create an iconic mosaic of Dermot Morgan, pixel by pixel.
Dermot’s son, Don Morgan, joined a host of Irish comedians and Father Ted actors to share their unique thoughts and experiences, giving us a real insight into the great man and how his legacy lives on today.
Harnessing Vodafone’s 4G network and 2,500 crowd-sourced Instagram photos, we created a beautifully unique and shareable tribute to an artist that has left an incredible impact on Irish culture, and facilitated fan tributes for Dermot’s incredible body of work.
We also gathered some of the country’s greatest comedic talents – such as Tommy Tiernan, Foil Arms & Hog, Karl Spain and Joe Rooney – to acknowledge Dermot’s amazing influence on Irish comedy today.
This unique tribute not only hit a chord with festival-goers, but reached far beyond the Iveagh Gardens through social media – featuring in articles from the likes of The Sliced Pan, Joe.ie, Breakingnews.ie and The Irish Examiner.
